Well everything about Gatsby is great big lie. Gatsby is actually James Gatz and the family he was born into were very poor farmers. When he was 17 he set out to "meet his destiny" wow. He served as a mentor to a rich, drunk sea captain, Dan Cody. When Cody died, Gatsby was supposed to get the inheritance, but Cody's mistress got into it first. So continuing with the story, Tom and his friend and his girl go to hang out with Nick and Gatsby. In a nutshell, Tom and Gatsby passive-aggressively try to present which one has more power. Tom's friend's girlfriend invites Gatsby to dinner and even though they don't like him, he agrees. The posse ends up leaving without him. Later, Daisy shows up with Tom at one of Gatsby's parties. Gatsby and Daisy sneak off to go make out. Tom secretly messes around with other girls. When everyone meets up again, Tom scoffs about the party but Daisy defends Gatsby. Tom makes a point to find out everything about who Gatsby truly is. Nick and Gatsby have a little talk about the Daisy situation. Daisy seems to want to run away but Gatsby wants to "make her understand" and basically drop everything she's doing right now.
The party seemed a lot more heated and aggressive in this chapter. You can really see Tom's suspicions about Gatsby and Daisy so he tries to make himself seem like the bigger man. You can also tell Daisy seems uncomfortable with West Egg but keeps defensive of Gatsby.
